I like popcorn. I like it with so much butter that is almost drips and lots of salt. One evening when I was about nine years old, I was on the front porch eating popcorn with my brother and some of the neighbor kids. My Mom came out to check on us and she took a bite of the popcorn. She almost spit. Why had we added so much more butter and salt? She didn't wait for an answer. She just told us that we were giving ourselves high blood pressure and we'd be sorry when we were old.
So now I am old, or at least on the upper edge of middle age, and it is surely my own fault that I have high blood pressure. It's only just barely high, if that counts for anything. I still eat too much salt and butter on my popcorn.
You were right, Mom.
