Surprise...the good kind
A few times a year my son has work related business close to home and so he drops by for a surprise visit. Although he only lives an hour and half away and we see him and his family every couple of months, these unexpected visits make me so happy. I was doing the dishes and listening to a sad report on NPR about homeless children in war zones when I heard the door open and the cheerful voice of my son call out, "Hey Mom, it's me." An average day immediately became a superior day. I wonder if my children will ever really understand the joy that hearing their voices and seeing their faces brings to me.
