I am going to a party tonight that I expect will be a Par-Tay. I don't mean Par-Tay in the drunken brawl sort of way. I mean that it has been planned well in advance, has a theme, will involve games and....even costumes!
Stay tuned.
I am not very good at planning parties. I like to go to parties, but am not an impressive hostess. I am fine with family parties because I don't have to provide any type of entertainment. I cook for three day, fill the house with unhealthy snacks and then sit back and let my family entertain me. We are a bunch of talkers and laughers and there is on occasion some music played. If you want to watch a movie or read a book part way through a conversation, that's fine too. It's perfect.
I was thinking back on the parties my parents had when I was young. It seems these mostly occurred around Christmas or New Years. My sister would be called upon to sing "Oh Holy Night" in an angel's voice she still retains. My brother would sing "My Grandfather's Clock" in his Vienna Boy's Choir voice that I am pretty sure has outgrown. I was mostly required to sit still and not be a smarty pants. (that particular talent didn't buy a lot of play time back then). I think I was asked to play "Birthday Party" on the piano once. It goes like this, if you would like to try it. C-D-C...C-D-C...D-C-D-E-C-C.
