Country Roads AND City Lights

Choose one. Pick a team. Adhere to a philosophy. Opt in or out. Yes or No. True or False.

People who live in the country, on farms and ranches, are often very loyal to their surroundings.  I have lived on  a farm for more than half of my life now and have heard many many people express their love of the rural life not in terms of what they love about it, but in terms of what they hate about the city.  In the "country or city" conversation there is always pressure to take sides. I can't do it. The country life has been good to me and to my family but the city life seems pretty great as well.
I've spent a little more time in the city (both Seattle and Salt Lake) than usual lately. I know it is a hackneyed expression but I like the energy of the city.  I like the movement and the variety.  If I want, I can have falafel for lunch and sushi for dinner.  I like public transportation and tall buildings. I like the easy access to art and music.
In a song titled Hometown Glory by Adele there is a line that reads : I like it in the city when two worlds collide.  That line really rings true to me.  I like the feeling of cultures mixing and bumping into each other all around me.
Below is Hometown Glory followed by two other city songs that I like.

  1. I've always found that people who romanticize "the country" too much have never lived there.

Also, I think with the Internet the divide between city and country is becoming less distinct. Although I think I was always meant to be a city person even if I do hate people.

  2. I am not sure that last post made sense.

Regarding the Internet, when I look back on my childhood I look at how different it would have been if I had Amazon and iTunes.

  3. Collin-Everything about your posts make sense to me. I probably over romanticize the city but I'd like to live in one long enough to test the theory.
