My daughter, Sarah, got married last Saturday. During the previous three months of planning, which she mostly did by herself since I was in another state, she was often told how calm she was. The cake lady, the dress lady, the caterer, the reception decorator (her awesome cousin, thanks again, Leslie!), the hair stylist, the photographer, her friends, the mom lady (me) were all amazed. She would just say it was all good karma or that David, (the groom to be, now husband) was so perfect that it really didn't matter if the details weren't. As it turned out, the wedding and all the celebrations went without a hitch.
There were a couple of funny things that happened but they didn't detract or distract from the day. During the nice lunch that David's (Sarah's David) family provided, my Dave put Sarah's bouquet in the fridge at the Church so it would be out of the way and hold up for the rest of the day. When he did this, he saw that the caterers had cans of beer in the fridge. Did I mention, at the Church!? It just made us laugh. The lunch was great with good food and good service so the details didn't matter. (Sarah and David didn't even know. Well, until now)
Also, they never cut their wedding cake. They were having such a great time visiting with family and friends that when I asked Sarah when they wanted to cut the cake, she said for me to just go ahead with it. It popped into my head to have Leslie's kids cut the cake. They had been so patient all evening at the reception and little Sydney was very intrigue with the cake. (There was LOTS of sheet cake already being served, but she wanted real wedding cake). Sarah said to let her go for it, so Sydney and her older brother, Max, cut the wedding cake. Sydney used the big knife and Max used the server (the spade type thing). Somehow Max managed to cut his finger (with the server-go figure?) and then by squeezing his finger to get a few drops of blood out, managed to get lots of attention. It was very cute.
All in all, it was a wonderful and fun day! At the end of the day we had a happy daughter and a great new son-law, so it couldn't have possibly been any better.
What a beautiful couple!! I wish we could have made it that night...darn.
